Occupational Science

Occupational science is the study of human occupation — how we occupy our time through activity, organize ourselves by activity patterns and habits, and create meaning through occupation. An evolving social science that studies occupation, how and why people engage in occupations, the context in which occupations occur, and the occupational performance that results.

The OT Department has been named #37 by US News & World Report for best Master's Occupational Therapy Program and the OTD was rated #2 by Nonprofit College online for Students Before Profits 2016 award. The faculty have presented nationally and internationally and have received important state and national awards, including the prestigious Fellow of the American Occupational Therapy Association. The students are involved in both the social life and decision-making of the Department through the Student Occupational Science Association and the Student Occupational Therapy Association. The total number of graduates from Eastern Kentucky University Master of Occupational Therapy program during the 3-year period of 2013-2015 was 184 with an overall graduation rate of 97%.
